JB3 upload limit ?
« on: April 17, 2006, 07:30:34 AM »
Hi I was just wondering if there is a upload limit on the jb3, I am trying to upload a 1.5 gb file and it will not let me. Any advice besides don't create a such a big file loser. And use the fast forward button. ;) Any help would be great.

are you using usb or firewire?  I've heard of the jb3 choking on big files in the past when transferred over usb.

Because nothing says "I have lots of money and am sort of confused as to how to spend it" like Bose.

It's a friend of mine not really me, I sold him the JB3 and I feel bad that he is having problems with it. You guys use them all the time, I am sure its not a JB3 issue right? Anyway he is using USB, I think he should use firewire its all I ever use. Have you ever moved that big of a file with the JB3 via USB? ( about 1.5 gb) he says it gets about 70% done and then chokes.

You might want to try creating another big 1.5gb+ file and see if it will download...perhaps something flaky about that file?

I've never had this happen...

i'm guessing its an issue with usb.  it seems like i had that problem once trying to transfer to my old laptop.  i think it was a combo of the size, usb, and having an old driver installed.

I'd try firewire personally, and i'd bet that'd fix it.

Having both Firewire and USB is a nice, somewhat unspoken "feature" on this unit...If one fails the other will likely still work.

I got a steal on JB3 a while back - worked fine (except for one bar on the screen is out) - but the USB wouldnt work at all...not even recognize - no matter the software combo...Firewire worked perfect. So they seem to be discrete.

I've transferred several files over 1GB before, over USB. Maybe not quite as high as 1.5GB but certainly close. I had huge problems transferring with my old desktop machine, which I never  got to the bottom of. I ended up using my laptop to do the transfer instead, no problems since then. I have a suspicion my problem was some sort of USB compatibility. So that's my suggestion - try transferring with a different computer... hth.

best regards,
stephen

I have a USB pci card I can send him or do you think thats a waste of time and I should just tell him to get a firewire card? Also do you guys know if the JB3 is 2.0 or 1.0 ? usb. I would assume its 2.0 since it has firewire but I donno.

the different usb card may work.

might just be worth it to buy the firewire card, you can get cheap ones for under $10 online

I use firewire exclusively.  Transferred multiple files with a cumulative total of at least 5gb, all at once.  Of course, the buffer only transfers one file at a time, but I have never had an issue.  Firewire is one of the best attributes of the JB3, IMO.  Very stable.

I've uploaded several 3 hour files (around 2GB) at a time, use USB exclusively, pc is still pretty new (1 year old). I accidentally forgot to order a firewire card.

No probs apart from taking around half hour per file!

I had this same problem when I first started using the JB3. I stopped using Creative's software and bought Notmad Explorer and a firewire card, have had zero problems since. He should upgrade to both.

I had the same problems, my solution was to plug it in to A/C and remove all batteries.
