Big Shure Windscreens Help

posted this in the Mic forum but i figured it might get answered here quicker as i'm taping this afternoon. just opened my new big shure windscreens and found some odd brittle screen looking material inside them. is this supposed to be inside them and do i leave it in them when i insert the mics? thanks for the info!!!
