I don't think that will work.  The R01/R09 only have analog inputs.  The UA5 only has digital output.  You can get analog out of the UA5, but it goes: mics>UA5>ADC>DAC>analog out, so you're doing an extra ADC/DAC step if you put this in front of everything.

The question, and I'd like to hear comments, is how good is the R09 with an (external) mic input.  Something like AT853, CK91, etc.  These are all electrets, so is it feasible to takes mics + battery box and put into an R1 or R9, or should I have a preamp in front.

thanks for the reply - just looking for the best scenario to replace my ageing D7, as I have been offered a UA5. As I thought, it would be pretty uselss doing this as the UA5 is a nice pre/a/d on its own. looks like an alternative with a digi-in is the way to go. Too bad buying the MT is like playing russian roulette....

I think the best "open" setup would be UA5 + either NJB3 or iRiver, both about $150 or so.

The best "stealth" setup would be R09.

The best "hot pants" setup would be Microtrack  >:D

I'm still looking for opinions on R09, especially mic in.

+T, Richard.  ;D

I have an R-09 on pre-order with Sound Pros. Hopefully it will ship as soon as they get the next batch. Then I will be happy to send you some AT + R09 samples.  8)

the rca outs on the back are adc -> dac?  i was never aware of that...interesting...I always thought it was just an output from the analog line before conversion
Auditory
Intake  waves -> 0/1's -> waves
it's magic
