Topic: I'm just curious, how would I store my active cables whan not in use?

I use to keep my mic cables in the bag always.  But what do I do with the active kc5 cables when not in use, they seem more fragile.

I coil mine over-under and simply store them that way in my gear bag, caps attached and protected by DPA UA0896 windscreens.  Unless you're abusing them, they shouldn't prove any more fragile than regular mic cables.  Also, make sure you don't pull the caps in/out of shockmounts, mount bars, etc. by the cables themselves - better off using the collette connector or cap so you don't stress the cable.

I think the KC's don't seem very fragile to me. Especially when compared to MBHO's or Neumann's cables.
I sold my MBHOs partly because the cable seemed so fragile, and I knew I'd fuck it up eventually.
All of the actives I've used I've always just coiled them into an appropriately sized tupperware box and they have always been fine. Also, I've stored them many times like Brian suggested and they seemed fine that way too.

Even the thin Sennheiser cables have a thin steel (?) wire that is strong enough to be used to kill someone. (or escape prison)
The wires themselves are also strong and somewhat hard to solder.

The stock MBHO cables are prone breaking, If you gave them a good yank you could break the shield or one if the 4 internal wires.  Similar to a cheap headphone cable.  Another problem/convience w/ the MBHO cables is they use TA4 mini xlr connectors which I Hate(only made by switchcraft, not very robust) but are readily available.

The stock MBHO actives are very fragile, I have only used mine a handfull of times and was always worried about them.  I whipped up a new set using the Belden 1804a cable which is similar to the schoeps cable.  I over-under them and stick them in the rm-multi pouch w/ all my other accessories.

As brian suggests I would leave the caps attached w/ windscreens.  I have borrowed Ricks MK4 > KCY and km140 combos and he keeps em the same way but also in a small tupperware.

Ah yeah, I should have mentioned that I ran 648a's. I always wanted to have someone tear them apert and replace the cables with something legit, but I also thought the sound was abit thin for me even running through the Mme.
udovdh, the stock MBHO cables are seriously dangerously weak. The guy I bought them from only had them a year and already had to have the cables replaced. I've never been happy with the cables I ran, the 648's were too fragile, and the 140's always kinked. I too will someday waayyy down the road turn to the darkside partly because of the durable cable aside from the other obvious advantages to my ears.

Having been inside the schoeps actives, I have to disagree.

Ahhhh...good points.  I can only speak from my own experience since they've not failed yet (I'm pretty careful with my actives in my bag).  Interesting bit about windscreens.  I just got a new pair of small popscreens for indoors (B5), and they're definitely not shredding.  Will have to check my DPA UA0896 and Shure A81WS.  Regardless, I think I'll go back to my film canisters.  Thanks, FL.
