Whats a good Hi-MD recorder?
Im looking to buy one, but i have no idea whats good and whats not good.
my price range - $0-$200

Also could someone point out a decent mic too?

The new RH1 just came out but its about $120 over your price.  I currently have the RH10 and I love it.  You can get one new for about $250 and is worlds better then the RH910 because the 910 does not have the OLED so its hard to see at night.  Im considering selling my RH10 so I can buy the RH1...Ive got the box and everything for it make me an offer if you're interested.  Its just over a year old and is in pretty good shape except for a few scratches on the front from stealthing / putting in and taking it out of my pocket.

That is the M100 which is the same as the RH10 but has support for uploading to a mac.  I dont know if you need that or not but its the only difference.

HiMD and regular MD media is RW, that is, it can be erased and rewritten.

So, just buy a pack of five HiMD 1G disks and keep using over and over again.

In some ways, this is cheaper than flash memory.  But not cheaper than an internal hard drive.

But if your HD goes south in the iriver or jb3 your whole rig is dead.  If you bust a MD youre only out a few bux.

Beefstew, you can get a Nomad Jutebox 3 for cheap on ebay.  Its not as small but folks on here sure do seem to use them quite a bit.

Some mics and maybe a preamp depending on the mics.  I dont know much about the jb3 other then its about the size of a discman with a 20gb hd in it. 

Im sticking with MD till the format dies.

Where are you going to buy the 910 from?  I didnt see it listed on soundpros or minidisco. 

I hear that the church audio mics are pretty good and wont break the bank.  Ive never personally used them but I've heard good things.

Mr. Church audio hangs out here.  Ill let him give you pointers on what to get since he makes the gear. 

$165.00 is a pretty sweet deal on the deck...I think Id still spend the extra few bux for the OLED display, its so nice having a night bright display at a show to get a quick level check.

2 more questions (man im suck a n00b )

what "type" of mic would be perfect for a loud ass rock show - in an extremely small club

and where would the best place to stand be?
very close to a speaker?
in the middle of both speakers?
way in the back?
way up in the front where i can almost touch a band-member...?

I prefer, and use, omnis.  I have a pair of DPA 4061s and have used them in a tiny shit-hole of a bar, theatres, arenas, and amphitheatres and sound pretty solid at all of them.  I love a stack tape so Im usually right up on the stacks (not so good for your ears by the way) but others like the FOH (near the soundboard spot) which gives an overall better sound since thats where the house sound is mixed from.  Ive taped front row dead center and got nothing but kick drum and guitar amps...almost no vocals at all.  So if you're going to be in the thick of it dont be too close.

1st song in a club that holds about 500 people.  I was standing about 1/3 way back to the board between the board and the stage a little off to the right.

2nd song WAY off to the side in an amphitheatre pretty much right next to the left stack.

3rd song a little further back in the same venue as the first song

4th song sitting right next to the board in a club that holds about 1100 people.
