A/D + power in one box?

I've been thking about doing some stealth recording.  The problem is that I'm ignorant when it comes to this small stuff.

I have an MT so is this possible?

1. DPA mics - I have no idea which ones but they do seem to be the stealh mic of choice.  Do they make a hyper or card mode? Omni's don't really appeal to me.

2. They would end in a 1/8" stereo plug (This isn't totally necessary but seems the easiest).

3. Some box that would allow the mics to plug into them, power the mics, provide gain control and have a 24-bit A to D and an output plug that would accept S/PDIF.

Possible?

Sound Pros- mod-deneke ad20 will power 1/8"(electret mics) and provide the ADC.

DPA does not make a hyper or card in electret mini mics.

If you want to stick with 1/8" plug I would go with the Mic Maddness HLSC1 (Sennheiser MKE40).  They sound great and are rated at 140+ db of max SPL.

The Sound Professionals CMC4(AT853) are nice but the bass distorts in the 1/8" version.

Deneke AD20?  Only ouputs 20-bit, correct, not 24 bit and also 44.1 kHz.

Looking at their site I see the CS-MIC2496.  Why aren't we raving about this thing?  I'm assuming the sound must suck.  It does seem like the perfect solution though.

Run mics > mic2496 > Mt.  You'd have a very small package and be recording at 24/48.

Anyone know what the drawbacks of this box (Coresound MIC2496) are?

you are correct about the AD20 , but with mini mics is 24/96 nessesary?

The core-sound thing is nice, i think it has a bad rep because some folks here don't dig Len's personality.

the cards absolutely rock, but they're a LOT more expensive than the mini 406x omnis...

yep, 402x series arte all 48v phantom, so is the 4011 versions of the fiuull body

dpa/b+k also makes 130v versions of some of their mics as well, i would love to hear them do a hyper capsule on the full body version, or the small body 402x series

If you have a microtracker then you can get the DPA mics (4060 or 4061) and run them straight into the MT with excellent results.

This is incorrect.  The AD-20 samples at 20 bits, but dithers it down to a 16 bit output.  Your end result is a 16/44.1 recording.  It would fit your needs, except for the 24-bit part.  You would also need a cable with a female 1/8 > XLR to run the mics to the preamp.  You could then run the AD-20 to the MicroTrack through the S/PDIF connection.  Again, the recording would only be a 16/44.1 recording.

Sanjay is correct, you could run dpa > MT direct, but I believe that the MT only provides 30 volts of power to the mics.  Is this correct and could the dpa handle this degree of power being sent to them?

they have been quoted as saying they will never do a hyper.  Their goal is as flat a mic as possible and if I remember correctly the view at DPA is that the hypers color the mics in a way that is not consistent with their goal

There is a plug in power of around 5v +/-, im not sure exactly but others have done it.  alternatively you could get XLR > microdot adapters and run phantom however I don't know how much you'd gain by that.
