Best program for mixing 2 recordings??

I taped OAR off the board and with my mics and im tinkering around with mixing the two in soundforge but my problem is that i had to swap discs since they like to play for more then 95 min.  Mixing one song is no problem but laying down one file on top of the other cant be the best way to do this. 

Any suggestions?

Heres a the mix i did on one song with soundforge sounds ok but being able to listen to the mix and adjust the volume of both on the fly would be nice.

Well, not technically free - it's shareware.  Beyond trial usage, the license requires one to pay.

Not as cheap as freeware Audacity.    I find Audacity's multitrack capabilities - while limited relative to some commercial software - just fine for mixing multiple channels down to stereo.

Well, technically, it is on the honors system, so paying isnt "required"(for those that are dishonest)  reaper has now gone out of a BETA status into 1.0.

brian, can you tell me how to slide the tracks once they're cut in audacity... i looked around for that a while ago and couldn't get it figured out. every time i chopped a track up it automatically aligned with the last portion.

Yup - just click the double-arrow control button <-> in the upper left, then select the track you wish to move, and drag left or right.
