Upgrade or not upgrade
« on: August 14, 2006, 08:20:37 AM »
Hi all, recently i bought an mp2 and the improvement on the sound it's evident, but new doubts coming to my mind.  The big doubt it's about the needed about an AD converter or not. I'm explain, my actual rig it's this:

CMC-8 > samson PM-4 > MP-2 > R1

I'm thinking about put in the middle of my preamp and the recorder a sbm-1. How are your opinion about the AD of the R1?
If I go to  sbm-1 I will have to change the recorder  for go to digital , the R1 don't have optical in. I have an iriver, but I will lose the possibility of recording in 24 bits ...youyouyou many doubts for noob mind...any opinion it's  been thankful

Here a sample from yesterday, my first attempt with the mp2, set the leves on the MP-2 at 8 o'clock and the gain on my R1 not at maximum.

stick with the R1.  From what I have heard the A/D compares pretty positively with the Oade mod SBM1...so you probably wouldnt see the improvement you are looking for.

R-1 is way sufficient.  If you dig enough, you can find messages where certain members state that the A/Ds on the R-1 made them feel that they could abandon their V3s.    :o
Tickets are dead to me.  Except the ones I have, don't have, and lost.  Not to mention the ones you have, don't have, and lost.   And the ones that other dude has, doesn't have, and lost.  Let me know if you need some tickets, I'm happy to oblige.

i bet you would notice more of an improvement in your rig if you upgraded your mics instead of adding an A/D. you're probably much better off sticking with the r-1 especially for stealthability
