I am impressed with the performance.
Just tried this for the first time last Friday night. I was dead-f%$#ing center in the front row of the venue's balcony. R-09 with electrical tape over the REC & Peak lights, inside an Oakley sunglasses bag, inside the breast pocket of my North Face jacket (inside of the jacket is mesh), jacket folded inside-out and set on my knee for the entire show. This choice of materials was great because I got no noise from shifting or crinkling fabric. (FYI, the room was nowhere near pitch black and I could still see the screen a little bit during the show through all the layers - not enough to monitor levels, but enough to probably get busted if they'd been looking)
I had the R-09 set on low-sens with the levels at 29 (out of 30). Lithium batteries, 4gb transcend, 24/48. Rolled in with no problems, hit the stall to start the recorder, back to my seat, jacket on my knee & the show started 5 minutes later. This was a spoken word/music variety type show with a number of different artists reading and performing so I got a good idea of changes to make next time. The PA was never up too loud, so the level setting at 29 wasn't really enough and I had to boost the levels in post. Not bad, but next time I'm thinking hi-sens and a level of maybe 15 for a similar room.
Anyway, as I said, I'm sufficiently impressed. Now if I could just format the 4gb card without hooking up to the desktop...
