MT2496 Essential adaptor!!!!
« on: September 16, 2006, 02:24:52 PM »
Last night's Built to Spill was my last trashed show due to loose connections. I finally figured out the right combination of adaptors and cables:

Radio Shack Gold Series Heavy-Duty Phono Jack Coupler
$3.99
Model: 274-863
Catalog #: 274-863

So much for that. There is a wierd noise throughout the recording. I guess this adaptor wasn't the answer. Back to the drawing board.

why not get a different S/PDIF cable, one with an RCA connector that f-angleits.  I used the switchcraft right connectors and made my own S/PDIF cables, but there are many RCA connectors that will fit the MT very well.  and then take a razor and shave off a few millimeters of the mini-USB connector, so that the two connectors don't touch.  then everything will be nice and tight and secure without any adaptors...

Yes, I use just a normal Radio Shack S/PDIF cable and it does the job fine for me.  You can get a 4' cable for like $10 and it seems to work fine with the USB attached as well.  A little tight with both of them connected at the same time, but I can get it to work.

The one I got from him isn't tight enough. I have had so much angst over bad recordings by using it when it would create screeching static when jostled. I am going to cut it up into little pieces to exorcise the demons.

It's interesting to see what we accumulate over time. I did a big cleaning/reorgainization purge a couple of months ago and I found a cable that had an optical and s/pdif joined together. I pulled them apart and the s/pdif is nice and snug in both the MT2496 and out of the V3. I think I've finally founf my answer.

I'll third it. In fact I can bounce the MT around and I get no static on my recordings. I know what it is Jeff, must be that hpf setting  >:D

Jeff you hitting RRE this weekend ?

Most definitely hitting RRE. Stagger will force me to tape 24 bit, but then he'll handle the seeding.

I dabble with it, but it's so much hassle and I barely even listen to my 16 bits before putting them on my iPod and archiving them on one of my externals.

Most definitely hitting RRE. Stagger will force me to tape 24 bit, but then he'll handle the seeding.

I'm pretty sure that barrell just doesn't pass a digital signal.
