Nak's in need of TLC
« on: November 04, 2006, 10:57:04 PM »

I have got a pair of CM100 bodies with CP1 and CP4 caps.  They have seen many shows over the last 20 years and are in needs of a little TLC.  Does any one know where I could get them repaired.  One of the caps does not sound right.

Any help would greatly be appreicated.

How do they not sound right?  Also, which caps are we talking about?

One of the preamps for the CP'1 sounds low.  Like there is not enought power or it muffeled.

I also noticed that the CP4 have lost some screws.  In fact, one of them lost all the screws and the base is just slid in.

This may be a dumb question, but it's been a solution before...have you checked that you haven't accidently pushed thr -10db pad (under the cap near the FET) on?  That will certainly cause a different, lower and muffled output.

Maybe take your cp4 to a hardware store and see if they have some similar screws that will fit?

Thanks for the tip.  I checked the -10 pad and adjust both of them so that they were off.  The levels were still a difference  but if I adjust the levels I can balance them.  It about .75 off from one another.  Which is what I have been seeing at most of the shows.  Going to give them a try next week at Ratdog.

Can Nak's be matched?  I've been seeing the difference the last couple of years.

Thanks again

I doubt they can be matched.  I also doubt that they ever were, Naks were really not manufactured for the sole purpose of running stereo pairs, so matching really wasn't an issue for them.

I could be wrong.  But I'm glad you got the problem somewhat fixed.

Now about those Cp4's :hmmm:

If you are just under a 1 db difference between mics I would say that you are in good shape. :coolguy:

One of the C4's had no screws.  The other had them all three.  I took one of the screws out and put it in the other so at least it had something to hold it together.  Haven't made it out to try to find some replacements.  For as much bad weather that they have seen, there still going strong.

These are the only mic's I've ever run.  I got them in 86 and taped 10 to 12 shows a year with them except for a 5 year rest in the late 90's.  I've considered replacing them but never been able to get te extra cash together.  Kid's will do that to ya.  Now that there gown, they been starting to go and tape with me.  Never thought taping would turn into a family event.  It's a real joy to me when they want to go.  So I'm just trying to keep them going.

Thanks

finding batteries for the 1000's will be hard to do. i've been looking since the early 90's and couldn't find them anyhwere. it's easier to convert them to use a standard 9v battery insted. they work very good and getting them are not a problem. can you tell me what the cp-4 capsules are ? thanks.
