Portable Preamp Suggestions
« on: November 16, 2006, 10:08:19 AM »
I am looking to spend anywhere from 100-300 on a portable pre for stealth recording.  Anyone know of any nice sounding pre's about the size of the Microtrack that I should look into?  Thanks in advance!

Scott

If you want to do 16-bit, get a used Sony SBM-1.  There have been (and may still be) a couple floating around the Yard Sale section.  It is an A/D, but will make your recordings sound good.  I also used a Denecke AD-20 and liked that a lot.  Combination preamp and A/D.  Both units are very stealthable and fit in your price range.

I have no idea of what to use if you want to do 24-bit in that budget.

if you have some patience you might get lucky and find an mp2 for 300
mk4's / mk41's > nbox > Microtracker / HDP2
