Topic: Sony 7-pin > Coax questions

I have this cable:

that is for sale in the yard-sale, but one of my buyers has questions I can not honestly answer.  I have not used this cable with my old D7 in some 5 or 6 years and dont recall.

1) does anyone know the model number of this cable?
2) which direction(s) will the signal go when using with a D7/8
3) which direction(s) will the signal go when using with a D100
4) which direction(s) will the signal go when using with a M1

The model number is SONY RK-DA10

If my memory is correct, it works like this:

D7/8 = signal both ways
D100/M1 = 7-pin to coax only

But I wanted some proof or other opinions.

The signal def doesn't go both ways.  The only 7pin cable sony offered that did both digi in and digi out was their 7pin optical cable.  For their 7pin>coax cables, they made both digi in cables, and digi out cables.  I'm not sure if there is anyway to tell by looking at it, but I'm almost sure you wouldn't be able to tell from this picture.

The 7pin coax digi in/out cables were all aftermarket cables, not ones directly offered by sony.  Usually made by either Oade bros. or Prodigital, though sold through different retailers (oades, sonic sense, american digital, etc.).

Whichever it is -- digi in or digi out -- it will be the same no matter what sony DAT deck you're using.  Is this your cable originally?  If so, do you remember if you used it for digi in (eg, from a portable A/D in the field for recording) or for digi-out (eg. for digital playback out of your D8/M1 to your digital soundcard for transfers)?

I have owned it since like 1998 or 1999, but not used it in years.

I still have an M1 and an R300, so to test it, I should only be able to go one way Todd?

yep, either its an input or an output cable, not both

i could totally be wrong, but i remember it to be bi-directional.

Just tested with an M1 and R300

The digital signal will go from the R300 > M1 only

So, signal goes from the COAX end to the 7-PIN end, but not the other way.
