Bit Torrent Question
« on: December 17, 2006, 03:59:40 PM »
if i have a wirless cable modem dsl hub ( linksys wcg200 ) will BT's run faster - less errors - if i'm conected WIRED rather than wirles ?
i run a new macbookpro - r ther settings to open ports or something to make DL run faster ?
i have been trying to get a show from archive - are they PW req'd ?
how many DL should i expect to b running simultaneously ? (bt)

i realize archive is ftp and the one show i did get from there - i think it was ther - the mac opened DL folder and started the trxfer wo doing a thing - NICE - but i cant get the one show i keep trying for - yes i should look for another just to seee if it works but havnt found anyhting worth it yet.

what or how can i find out what i'm capped at for DL/UL speeds while running BT's ?

thanks again

1. I have no problems with torrents with my MacBook running wireless. Most (if not all) wireless connections will be faster than your internet connection.

2. I believe that you do NOT have to turn your wireless off on you laptop if you decided to run wired.

There are several good Bit Torrent FAQ's out there. Do a google search and read a few of them.

Also, one of the best things I learned to get the best speeds is from www.portforward.com

Once I set my computer to have a static IP and opened my ports, things have been very good.

Best of luck,
MIKE B

i'm generally running more than one BT at a time, now we all no it takes time to get them down'd. im finding that i have to restart the macbook to get the BT running faster. ive noticed over the wknd that the DL speeds run down to 0.00KiB so i restart and they start up runing much faster than previously. this is fine - i dont mind restarting every once in a while nut dont remember having to do this with my pc, my pc (years ago) could stay on for DAYS at a time with no problems. i dont feel the same way with the macbook.
Mike thanks !!
i do appreciate any helpful hints that why i belong to this list
hope i dont come off as too much of an illiterate !!

Mike- man I am so lost with portforwarding. I am firewalled up the ass and I haven't been able to seed a show in months! is there anyways you can break it down to people not as techy. I have tried portforward.com and its miserable trying to find a port that works on my computer.

this started as a mac thread - dont no about ryan - i will say that i have since ( i think ) opened ports on my router (6881-6889) as  to hopefully allow BT to run faster - I def think it worked, as soon as i did it, my 2 DL finished up soon therafter - last night i saw 180KiB's !! not running for long amounts of thime obviously but wasnt seing those b4... so then its just conq the archive thing

is it necc to open ports on the mac as well ?? again port fw, right ?

next up Archive, gotta learn the ftp thing

to d/l from archive, just go to the FTP/HTTP links and select each individual file and save to disk

I got a MAC. I have probably the craziest setup ever. I got 2 computers downstairs that is hooked up to a router, then I have my MAC and that is wireless so we needed a wireless reciever and thats plugged into the router. I did manage to get a connection today while I was torrenting my show so I am good!  ;D
