Sorry about my inarticulate post, I was tired and annoyed at some work problems that messed around my NYE fun.
I did manage to salvalge quite abit of it, however.
My reasoning on this device is extremely simple.
The focus of the laser in a CD or DVD player is extremely short.
It sees through the top layer of the plastic into the substrate metal and it's pit-marks.
The laser does not focus on the surface, nor beneath the pits, nor anywhere on the edge of the disc.
It auto-calibrates during start-up, so even if "unsightly digital glare" actually did exist (not that there should be a light source to create it) the self-cal would compensate.
The disc should not be illuminated by anything to cause glare anyhow.
Not that that seems to effect the Shanling players....
