Topic: sound forge 8 24 bit upload

so i got a new P2, recorded 24/48, when i try to open the file in SF 8 (build 77) it tells me i can't...then prompts me to purchase sf8, well my cpu tells me that is the version i have.  there support sucks ass. any one else run into this problem or do i have to set something up to let it read 24 bit.

Is Sound Forge one of the programs that can't open a file over 2g? Can't remember (I usually use Wavelab these days).

I had similar difficulties, even thought the file was under 2gb...though I was only using SF6. SF8 is supposed to be able to handle files up to 4gb.

For less than 2gb, what I did was to open in CDWav, then Save As, then reopen using SF6. You might be able to do  the same with a larger file using SF8.

I save my P2 files to a desktop file, then I open it in SF8 from there. I've never had a problem, yet.

yeah, are you saving to a harddrive first or are you trying to open straight from the p2

I use 8.0 for all my dithering and resampling - the only problem I've ever had with 24bit files was trying to save a file over 2GB - it allowed me to merge and edit the file but said it couldn't save because of a windows restriction

bringing up an older topic, but this one seemed to match my problems pretty well.

Recorded my first 24 bit show, and Sound Forge both v5 and v8, will not open the file. SF says "an error occured while opening a codec".

Size of file is ~1.5 gigs

CDWAV wouldn't let me re-resample to anything until I upgraded to the latest version of that. Did that so at least now I can open the 24 bit file in CDWAV and drop it down to 48k/16bit, which SF does open. But I want to work on the 24 bit file (boost levels, fade in/outs, then track out that 24 bit file). So seeing as I just upgraded to SF ver8, hoping I don't need to migrate over to WaveLab and ditch SF.....

So seems like I'm missing codecs for Sound Forge from the message I'm getting. Haven't found anything about codecs in regards to what I don't have.

Anyone have any ideas?

what recorder did you use? sounds like its a different format other than WAV to me. did you accidentally record in MP3 or something

attributes of file still on recorder says "wav-24bit/48.0khz" (same thing CDWAV says when I open it in that, opening the file that was copy/pasted to the hard drive that is)

trying out a trial version of wavlab5 now and am able to open the file (WL also says 24/48). Not quite used to the features/functions that WL has over Sound Forge (some good, some not as good). So I've got a temporary work around now, but would rather use SF.

Hmm, any "changes" lately to my setup? Well, I did upgrade the firmware on the R-09 about a week ago (before making this particular 24 bit recording). Bumped up to firmware 1.10, in which I see there is a newer firmware now available.....

found my problem myself. Re-copied the original 24 bit file from the R-09 to my pc, and it opens right up in SF (and other other app I've tried).

For some reason, the property attribute of the file called "audio format" was missing the entry "PCM" (on the file I was working with that was causing the problems).
