microphone for my Hitachi camcoder, help!
« on: January 07, 2007, 01:31:18 PM »
i really know almost 0 about microphones, i got 'Hitachi DZ-MV730E camcorder' and the build in mic isn't great!

Im from UK and i record heavy music shows so i just want something good, doesn't have to be the best, also price does matter!

here is an example of my master and what does my current mic sounds like!

According to the Hitachi site: http://www.hitachidigitalmedia.com/DMG/viewProduct_1.jsp?productid=470
your camcorder does NOT have any external mic jack.

..if this is true you will need an audio recorder first.
Options in order from cheapest up are Sony HiMD, iRiver iHP120/140/320/340, Zoom H4, Edirol R-09, check the 'recording gear' section.

good! so many cams, specially new ones, even HDV cams don"t have any mic-in, good your's does have one.
I am no big specialist and there are many around who have much more experience with mics than I do, and after all it depends what you want and how much you want to spend.

Anyhow, if it should be a 'single point stereo mic' which  ( 2 mono caps in X/Y config. inside a single body ) which easily can be mounted on the cam and has a mini stereo plug to connect directly with your cam ( unballanced, does not need phantom power ), I'd recommend either the AT822 http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/wired_mics/665bdf92967733dc/
or the Beyerdynamic MCE82

if it was a matched pair the Studio Projects C4 are liked around here ( http://www.studioprojects.com/c4.html )

if they should be very small the SP-CMC4 ( http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/SP-CMC-4U ) or other SP, Church Audio's mics asf. are a favourites of many, sometimes cheaply to be had in the yard sale here.

you are asking for it:

than buy mine, a Panasonic VW-VWS2 incl. selfmade shockmount for 75 Euro + shipping:

excerpt of it's specs:
power source: 1,5 V battery
directional characteristics: unidirectional ( stereo )
nondirectional ( mono )
frequency response: 100Hz to 20.000 Hz
sensitivity: -47 db ( o db = 1V/pa,1 kHz )
output impedance: 600 Ohm
S/N ratio: 67 db or more
cord: 3,5mm stereo mini plug cord length 300 mm
switches: off/mono/stereo
wind cut: on/off

it's an original japanese mic, I had bought it 2 years ago in Osaka, the selfmade shockmount works great, uses the mic's shoe to mount, is very stable, can be used to carry the cam 'overhaed',and of course is in good working condition, hardly any signs of use to be found.
