Audacity - Resampling Question
« on: January 23, 2007, 01:31:33 AM »
Hi, hopefully there is an easy answer for this.  When I take my 24 bit 48 kHz .WAVs and resample to 16 bit 44.1 kHz, the resulting .WAV files are all a couple of seconds longer than the originals.  What am i doing wrong?

Thanks

Dennis

what are you doing? in steps. you ought to be able to set the desired exported s.r. in the bottom left corner of the window. i've found that if you go into prefs, set the default s.r. for the project at hand, import the desired project, then select 44.1 just before exporting, it oughta work.

Yeah, did all that.  And I've done this before without issue, but this time it came out wrong.  Oh, well, I used Cool Edit Pro instead and it worked fine. :)  Still would like to know what the issue in Audacity is, though.

Personally, in my opinion, there is no audible difference, that I or prob anyone can here, between 44.1 and 48 so I would record at 44.1 so you dont need to resample.  Resampling from 48 to 44.1 is not an even dither down unlike 96 to 48 or 88.2 to 44.1 which are a much easier process of dithering.  Also, if you are just using the recordings for CD distribution then theres no point for 48.  Anyway thats my 2 cents
