Mini Me>hosa>jb3 oddity...
« on: February 03, 2007, 03:33:46 PM »
pardon my ignance here, but i need a little advice..

running nak550>silver clad>xlr>mini me>aes/ebu>hosa>opti>jb3 (wow...thats a signal chain!)

it seems the jb3 will only record @ 44.1, no matter if i set the mini me to 16/48 or 16/44.1.  so if i fly the signal in @ 48kHz, the resulting playback of 44.1 on the jb3 is pitch slow, while running 44.1 on the mini me keeps it at pitch on playback..ive been able to dump 48kHz DATs into the jb3 and it will record @48k...

im stumpted   >:(

ran nak550>cables>minime>usb>ibook and got 24/96, so the mini me is working right..

any advice?

Changing the sample rate in the file header will probably fix the playback issue -

but - something must be up with the minime - the JB3 should have no trouble locking onto 48khz

Have your tried to get another device to lock on at 16/48??

Wierd!!!

I've used my JB3 with 4 different A/Ds - never a no lock...

Is your JB3 firmware up to date? I know some of the early versions were weak on recording features...

Grasping at straws here - the mini-me folks will have to chime in...

Okay.... I'd say this is a jb3 issue.  And not just because I sold you that minime...

As RS said, you are recording at 48khz.  The jb3 is not properly identifying the stream. Tweaking the header should fix the playback.

Maybe the cable is flaky?  Did you ever get that jb3 upgraded to the latest firmware?

i need to do that firmware..i did d/l it but then what do i do?

Check to see what version you are running now - I think any of the 1.2 versions are not up to snuff...

I think the 1.3 and 1.4 versions are ok...

I forget how to check - its in the JB3 FAQ - as are upgrade instructions...

Not sure if they are...

Is the original suspect opti cable still involved?

nope..got a good one now...no adapters or right angle thingys.....i shut it all down, but my next 'find the prob' eliminator will be running cass>mme>aes/ebu out> D5, which has the aes/ebu in....other than that, im out of options....i did grab a coax<>opti hosa out of the yard sale last week, & that'll be here anyday for me to test...

My minime won't output to 48k at 16bit, but will at 24bit. This started about a year ago. I never got it fixed since I only do 24bit.

Perhaps - but the JB3 should still lock, and truncate, the last 8 bits...plenty of guys running a backup JB3 this way...

final result....
tried the mme coax>hosa odl276>opti out>jb3 & it locks on at 48k...so its either the hosa312 (doubtful) or the aes/ebu out on the mme....

Sorry so late on this.
I'd suggest ditching the Hosa 312 in favor of a Hosa ODL-276a. Then use the mini-me s/pdif.

However, if must use AES/EBU (and I bet you want to due to it's physical robustness compare to the s/pdif on the mini-me) I'm not sure what to tell you.
