R-09 in cold climate

I'm planning a ski trip across Greenland in april. We will have a simple videocamera with us and I want to be able to add speech later. I also need to slim down the weight so instead of carrying a book to read I want to put audio books and use the r-09 for playback and recording. Anyone have any experience in using the r-09 in cold weather?

Temperature can be around - 30 Celsius (-22 ? fahrenheit). What batteries would be smart to bring? Battery life is of importance since I want to carry as little as possible and will be away for about 3-4 weeks.

Your R-09 should be fine remember if its in your pocket it will not be -22 it will be more like -10 to 0 I would not worry about it. I live in a place where its -25 to -30 in the winter and I have never had a problem if the device in question is in my pocket. I would even put it in a wool sock if your really concerned but I think you will be ok.

The running time will be affected but if the unit stays in his pocket it should be ok.. Most batteries that are lion can handle a -5 temp with out changing much.

I haven't been able to track down anybody who worked on the March of the Penguins movie, but I want to know how much runnning time they got out of the Cantar. It's one thing to be at -5 F, but another when you're in the -40 and lower category... Those batteries probably couldn't have lasted longer than about 30 minutes. I suspect they probably built some special housing of sorts to go around the unit, but still it was friggin' cold out there....

If the original poster gets an official answer, please post it back here. I'm sure most of us would like to know what Edirol and battery manufacturers say about it.

I took these pictures of Greenland from the plane coming back from Europe last November.  It was clear blue skies coming back...
I can only imagine what it's like to be down there
