Weird Computer Problem

I just dropped a new mobo and processor in my box and it frequently just looses power and reboots. any idea why? it typically happens if i'm trying to process something. processor usage is not more than 40% or so. Thx!

When you installed the new processor, did you also install the thermal paste?  What are your temperatures at?  Sounds to me like a heat issue.  Computer restarting under load when it gets too hot.

Could be heat could be a bad power supply also make sure you have connected the secondary power supply lead for the mother board a common mistake. Most new computers now need at least 350 watts of real power to run them if you upgraded the mb and cpu maybe you should also get rid of that old case or at least upgrade the PSU I have a thermal take power supply it seems to be pretty nice.

It does sound like a heat issue, but make sure that your RAM chips are seated firmly as well.

I'd second the power supply issue, it happened to me, a newer bigger PS fixed the problem

I had a Soyo board that had the same problems.  Ended up being the RAM.  Same type just different manufacturer fixed it for me.

if we would know more about the rig we could make a better guess. It sounds like heat issue but it could be cheap power supply as well. These days everyone should use high end power supplies .

Sounds like it is probably either a bad RAM chip or a mis-seated RAM chip.
