Topic: Why is the left channel a 1/2 dB louder then the right?

Typically when recording I've noticed that the left channel  is a bit hotter then the right?  Anyone know why?

Is it simply that the left channel on the pre is just a bit different then the right?

Are your Schoeps matched? They may be just a bit off. That's my guess. I doubt it's the V3.

They are matched but I have noticed it with many different kinds of gear, even in studios.

it's your ears...      They weren't matched at the factory!

I always noticed this with a pair of 391's that I used to run back in the day.They were matched but one was 1 or 2 db hotter.

weird, maybe theyre mostly matched per frequency analysis rather than level

My HOs are about a db apart.  But they don't match them.  At least I don't think they do.

You should always keep your HOs apart, otherwise they start fighting and end up ruining the tape.

you can always ad a bump to that channel in post if you need.

i have a sneaking suspicion that the right channel LED levels on my V3 calibrated a little hotter than my left. of course it could just all be in my head. i have ran both mics out of different channels and it always seems like the right is a little hotter. i guess when i finally send it back to grace for the polarity issue i will ask them to check it out. it is only off by like 1 dB.

This is very easy to check with a test tone.
