"During the middle of the set the gain went from 12 to 16. "

Hmm. I find it difficult to understand - could you help me (non-native english speaker) understand what happened.

Obvious things to look for is that the cables are correct type (guess you have done that). The gain on line inputs on the 722 could be a little confusing -- I´ve stumbled on those before so maybe one check extra.

The system has plenty of gain left though above the 40 ov the sax, guess that is not your complaint: you could switch the sax to high, you could switch the 722 to mic input instead of line.

the 722 need to be on line in for it to work with the sax.  and when i ran one before i would use gain 20 and it worked fine.  I sent in back to the USA distributor to test out. hope to have a working one really soon

FWIW, I did some pre amp > 722 tests a while back and the sax behaved exactly like any other preamp. So based on that and your previous comments, I'd still guess you have a sax issue.

thats what i think, maybe its an issue with the XLR outs

make sure they check the active cables and Collettes.  when I had a low level issue with my NBox, it was a bad connection in one of my Collettes.
