Iriver Question
« on: March 05, 2007, 10:58:14 AM »
Hey all after searching all over the place i came up with two conflicting reports...so...

Does the iriver 120/140 allow you to record at 16-Bit/ 48 kHz ....OR....Only  16-Bit/ 44.1 kHz???

Assuming the unit is rockboxed of course ::)

If I remember correctly, you can do 16/48 if running analog in, digital in it'll read the 48k signal as 44.1 - causing major speed issues.
Right now nothing...in the past: Schoeps CMC6, AKG 480, AKG 460, AKG 414, MBHO 603a, Neumann KM100, ADK TL>Schoeps MK4, Schoeps MK2, Schoeps MK41, AKG ck61, AKG ck62, AKG ck63, Neumann AK40, Neumann AK50, MBHO ka200>Lunatec V2, Lunatec V3, Apogee Mini-Me, Oade M148, Oade M248, Sound Devices MP2, Sonosax SXM2>Sony (mod)SBM1, Apogee AD500>D7, D8, D100, M1, R1, R4, R09, iRiver HP120, Microtrack

I had this problem as well, but it was caused by the 9-13-2006 REP build I was using. Other builds of RockBox will accept up to 16/96 via optical. I'm using a much older build, so I can't really say if builds currently available on RockBox have this problem or not.

in h1x0, analog in goes up to 16/44, digital does 16/xx (can't remember, could well be 16/96).
Afaik, the invalid samplerate bug was fixed months ago...

on iaudio X5, rockbox does analog 16/88

Can anyone explain the advantage of recording at a higher sample rate if bit-depth is still 16?

I may be mistaken, but, I was thinking that boojum was refering to Ryan Sims question, and not the original question at the top of the thread.  It would have helped clarify the issue if Ryan's post was quoted in his post.  I don't think the benefits of higher sample rates is really discussed in the FAQ, but correct me if I'm wrong.

You're correct about the sample rate question.  I am still interested if anyone cares to explain.

Are you talking about analog in or digital in?

It will capture as high as 88kHz (possibly 96kHz) 48kHz on the digital in but it puts 44.1kHz in the wav header so it will play really slow in some tools. You can edit the wav header and change it to the right value and everything is cool again.

Never mind. I ran it 88kHz and got dropouts. Looks like 48KHz is the max.

That wasn't the case last time I tested digi-in (quite a ways back, mind). Recorded up to 88kHz fine.

Maybe I had a cable problem, that's entirely possible. I'll test it at home tonight some more with a new cable. It seemed to run fine for a while and then get a drop about every five minutes or so.

If you do find it is a RockBox issue, could you please post it in the recording subforum of rockbox.org (http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?board=26.0), and/or add it to the bug-tracker (http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/newtask/proj1)? I'll make sure jhMikeS sees it ;)
AFAIK he tested this and so it should work, but I have no h1x0 so I can't try myself...

EDIT: I got told 96kHz works good so no reason 88kHz shouldn't work.

Which build was used when you got the dropouts?
I never had dropouts on my recordings using the 20070217 build + REP from Mmmm´s website ;).
