Torrent help

So I just hooked up DSL in my new place and can't seem to get bit torrent working. I have a Siemens Speedstream 4200 modem and using utorrent 1.6 with Windows XP. All of my torrents say "offline (timed out)" and I'm trying to connect to a few differnt trackers and they all say this. I checked portforward.com and that site does'nt seem to have directions for this modem. If anyone could help get this going I would be much appreciative.

Edit to say that when I check my port with utorrent I get this message.

hmmm weird did you try a restart? maybe reset the dsl modem/router?

Bean: I rebooted the router and now I'm connecting to trackers 
Only thing now is it seems that I'm capped somehow, cause I'm only pulling in 150 kb/s.
I ran a speed test and it showed 1098 kb/s so I don't know what's up with that.
I signed up with Windstream and shelled out for 600kb/s.

yea, thats weird that your outbound is being blocked, but everything seems to be working now so i don't know if that was the issue.

IF you aren't getting max speeds that is pretty normal since BT wile saturate your outbound bandwidth before it saturates your inbound.
I know my cable has a max outbound of ~40K.  Downloading from the archive or major internet sites like microsoft or apple.com you can probably achieve your maximum input.  150K is pretty fair for BT and residential service

yep, 150 is fair. some fatpipes like tapers.org and i can get over my 1MB limit easily

150-600 a torrent is good IMO. and they ALWAYS go up/down/up/down for me, so dont worry there either!

Remember to make sure you are using 75% or less of your total upload speeds.  If you have it maxed out it will never allow you to maximize your download.    Also some ISP's throttle bandwidth due to BT.  Check the Protocol Encryption box in utorrent as that tends to fix the throttling problem usually.

why is this? i have always had my upload and d/l max at 0(which is NO limit) and have had zero problems in utorrent. i have finished every torrent ive started. sometimes my end would just stop uploading but i never had a problem d/l'ing

Yup.  Exactly how mine is.   You should notice a nice difference in download speeds now Bean.

sorry for a minor hijack, but it seems like Chad has found solutions to his problems anyway...

For the last few months all torrents that I run will seem to be running normally until I complete the download, and then within a couple of minutes, my upload will slow and then sit at 0...indefinitely.  Even when I know that there are plenty of leechers still on the torrent.  I think I've seen this mentioned before, but don't remember how this was problem was fixed.

I've been running Tomato torrent on OS X, and have a cable connection w/a max upload of about 40K just like you guys have been saying.

ivce had the same problem on ALOT of torrents. lately it seems that 99% of torrents finish uploading but there always that ONE that only ups like 5kbs overall instead of like 768MB
