R-09 Now OR Wait for the Zoom H2??
« on: April 21, 2007, 09:34:19 PM »
I am looking to get a new 24 bit flash recorder.  Very interested in the Zoom H2 but don't know what kind of ADC it might have, would hope it's somewhere near Sony's Hi-MD ADC which is what I have been using for a few years now.

Any reason to wait for it (Zoom H2) over getting the R-09 now?  The line input woes on the R-09 still scare me.

Thanks for any feedback.

Not sure what R-09 "line input woes" is about, but if not in a hurry, maybe wait to see what Zoom learned about H4 shortcomings in producing the very low costing new H2.

Guy-
I should have stated "line input JACK/port woes" ...like it breaking off the board.  Sorry for not being clear and thanks for the advice.  I think I am going to just borrow a 2nd Hi-MD for hot swapping at 94 mins if necessary for the few shows I have between now and June.  Thanks. T+ +

I'm surprised not to see more discusison of the H2 in here (I did hunt around, but by all means point me to a thread if I've missed it somewhere!).  Singers are intrigued with it because of the price (amazes me that classical singers are so often so stingy when it comes to recording devices - they'll pay $150 a week for a voice lesson, but balk at $300 for a recorder... which will help them KEEEP those expensive lessons at their fingertips!)

In any case, I've seen the spec sheet, but has anybody seen one of these "live" yet? Any thoguhts?

I saw one at Zero the other night, on stage in front of their sax man, Martin Fierro.  I'm assuming it was Martin's.  Looked cool, even had a little tripod stand.

sorry, that was probably a H4.

unfortunately, the trend in these little location recorders seems to be built in mics, all in one little box.  obviously, "serious" concert tapers are not down w/that action.
unless something comes along that is just silly performance wise.  the r9 is pretty damn good, but I bet this thing w/its mic array will sound better.

That's the spirit!

If it looks cool, and is real cheap, who's to care how well it works or sounds?

This is audio after all, if it proves worthless for practical purposes, you can always attach a broach pin on the thing and wear it around as a conversational piece!

Guysonic,

Please, let's leave the withering Don Rickles satire out of the conversations here.
The H2 does look cool, and nobody knows what it sounds like.

A little cynical skepticism seems entirely appropriate because some mfgs do over promise and under deliver (m-audio).

Didn't I read that the H4 suffers from bass overload problems?

Definitions of pimp on the Web:

someone who procures customers for whores (in England they call a pimp a ponce)

A pimp is an informal term for a man who runs a brothel or otherwise oversees prostitution. The female counterpart to a pimp is a madam. Typically, a pimp will solicit clients for, protect, and in other ways manage a prostitute in exchange for a commission on her earnings.

I think you've got the wrong guy even by definition.  So, I will suggest you NOT FUCK WITH MY GEAR  ;D so YOU KNOW for certain this type of post is just plain stupid, abusive, derogatory, and clearly wrong by the guidelines set up as acceptable conduct to be followed in making posts within this group.    Contribute, ask questions, and try to add something of worth here.  Having rude/mean spirited fun at the expense of others or single person is maybe not the most productive use of your time here, and could get you blocked if making a habit out of this kind of thing.
