Using SPDIF to sync 2 JB3s for 4 matrixable tracks

I noticed my Behringer A/D would allow me to select Internal, External or Dig In as a clock source...I had tried to use the BNC connectors and the "External" setting - but that didn't seem to work. I got clicks on one source.

So, taking a clue from some of the questions Brian was asking about his new 4 track approach - I tried the "Dig In" setting - Seems to do the job!

I have 2 sources that will matrix without drift or the need for editing tricks!

So my setup was...

                                                         
Mics > dbx 386 @ 16/44 Coax out to CO2 > CO2 optical out > JB3 1 (aud)

CO2 coax out to > Behringer Ultramatch 2496 with Soundboard feed > JB3 2 (sbd)

Apparantly, you are finding, as I also have discovered, that most devices that are capable of taking an external clock signal, can just pick it up through a S/PDIF input, along with the music source.  This was the subjuct of another thread involving syncing an AD-20.

SHIT!!!

I was in such a hurry to align the tracks...I forgot to make sure I had two DIFFERENT recordings - I don't!!!

I have two of the same thing (AUD)...(I thought that "SBD" sounded wierd...!)

As I recall - I couldn't get a lock on the Behringer at first - I probably pushed a button...saw signal and thought I had it...

I checked tonight - (the Behringer remembers your settings) - and one button was definitely not in the right place...

But - I swear I was getting the SBD feed in my headphones and was adjusting the input gain...so something still might be flaky -

Trying to duplicate my setup tonight - I am unable to create the "no lock" situation from the other night...

I'll rerun this setup in the morning with a fresh head...

Damn - serves me right for not rehearsing this at home...just wingin' it doesn't cut it...!!!

At one point I was considering this, but I just ended up buying an R4.  They are pretty cheap now, and you can't beat the convenience, either two or four track recording.  Less gear to worry about...

Dig down into tracks 20 something for the best sound...

The first three tracks the sound man is getting the mix together...and its a bit low - those are bit more AUD sounding than the rest...
