Looking for advice...
« on: May 01, 2007, 04:49:24 PM »
On how to conceal my gear for an upcoming show...  Anyone mind PM'ing me some wisdom?  Here's my gear:

Ediol R9
Church 9100 pre
Church Cards (with clips)

I don't usually wear glasses, but a hat ain't out of the question.  Any info would be appreciated!

True love is hard to find, sometimes you think you have true love and then you catch the early flight home from San Diego and a couple of nude people jump out of your bathroom blindfolded like a goddamn magic show ready to double team your girlfriend...

Glasses works best, but hair styles are mostly too short to hide pickups.

Wearing a shirt or light jacket with fold-down collar (button-down might work best, or apply Velcro adhesive patch to hold fold in place) allows placing those pickups just underneath facing forward out small gap.

Suggest cutting a "button hole" underneath collar's backside to thread the pickups and mic cord from inside the shirt so everything stays out of sight.   More taping tips at: www.sonicstudios.com/tips.htm

Sweet!  Thanks for the info!  Yep-  I've pretty much got no hair, so that doesn't help me so much.  Thanks to the link to the great info, as well as your post, and thanks to the 3 fellers who responded already by PM.  This board is a great resource!

I'm still waiting on my Church stuff, but I took my R09 out for a spin using it's internal mics @ an Arctic Monkeys show last night.  Not a great recording by any stretch, but it's a start, and I gained some valuable info that I can use when I get my gear just the same...

Good choice of kit you've made there. I reckon an CA mics> CA Pre> R09 should keep you taping happily for a long, long time!

I've only taped the one show (CA mics into an R09) but I couldn't be happier with the result.
