Group purchase of some DPA's
« on: May 15, 2007, 06:09:22 PM »
A friend and I were discussing the possibility of trying to negotiate a package deal with the US office of DPA.  Something like if we can get 5 people interested in buying a set then they *might* possibly give us price breaks.

If you could get a brand new matched pair of 4023's for under $3k would anyone be interested?

I have a feeling that this is something that could be pulled off depending entirely on how many people we could get together.  So consider this an early inquiry to the ts.com masses to gauge interest.  If you have interest please let me know either through this thread or via PM.

I've have gotten a good amount of interest so that is encouraging.   I do though want to make something very clear, what we're hoping to do with a group order may or may not work.  I hope that we can work something out but I know that DPA will not screw their dealer network over some mic sales.

My thinking is that maybe we can get a great deal or even a better deal because we may have a pretty good sized order.  I do not want people expecting some rock bottom below dealer network price.  With the financial commitment that these mics cost this is an idea that will take some time to line up a good number of people as well as other factors as well.

So if you're still interested please let me know so we can get all of our ducks in a row.

I just wanted everyone to know what the thinking is so there are no unrealistic promises or anything.

I'm still down however, like most people, I would still need to know final cost before plunking down money.  Also, if DPA doesn't give us a sweet deal what about frank at Cascade.

Great idea.

Doesn't the lemo make the 4023 kinda long?

From our yard sale thread:

4023 -
Microphone length:
30 mm (1.18 in); 71 mm (2.8 in) (incl. connector)

4022 -
Microphone length:
35 mm (1.38 in); 52 mm (2 in) (incl. cable relief)

So the 4023 is .8" longer from front of cap to end of cable relief.

Just measured a mk21 + kc5 and it is 1.797" from front of cap to the end of the kc5 neck.

Well this type of deal would be competing with Frank sort of.  We're trying to get the same dealer cost kinda price.

As for a timeframe.... i'm thinking 90-120 days.  With the cost being so high and what we're *hoping* to do this is not a 'this week' kind of proposition.  Again I think some things that will help are the # of interested parties first and foremost and then secondly some patience

I'm taking the attitude you don't know unless you try.

I'd personally be very interested if this were about the smaller DP's,say a group purchase of 4060's.  Many here are into open taping and have significant cash to invest in gear, but many are not. just my opinion, and overall, I think this is a great idea.

I hope you're not telling dealers what DPA direct price was and trying to get them to match it.  I don't think DPA would like that

Absolutely not.  We're not trying for anything tricky or underhanded at all.  No one is out to pit DPA against a dealer or anything like it.  We're just taking the Wal-Mart approach.  Attempting to buy in volume.

Again I stress that nothing could even come of this.  But if there is a 1% chance to get some of us into a DPA setup for less then i'm willing to try.  In the end going through a dealer may be the best way, maybe not.    Lots of ducks have to be lined up first and we're now into day 3 of our 90-120 day window.

So nothing funny going on.  No trying to pit people against each other for pricing.  Everything is on the up and up for sure.
