Price on non-working iriver h120/140
« on: May 22, 2007, 08:51:00 AM »
I'm wonder what a fair price is for non-working h1x0's.  I'm looking to buy some for parts and a few I can rip apart to understand the construction and so.......there are a few on ebay, but only says they don't power up...so they might have good batteries, hard drives, etc...

Anyone have any idea's?

I bought a few non working iRivers for this purpose and for the remotes.  Most don't have hard drives.  All of them had the battery.  A few of them, the power supply was fried.  You can still get them to work by removing the fried parts near the power input, but they will only work plugged into the wall..  Out of 5 iRivers I was able to get 2 working properly.

I have one left that has a hard drive and battery but the power supply is screwed up.  It kinda works when you plug it in with the wall plug.

I would sell it for $30 shipped (with case and iRiver mic)

Thanks Fred....I may take you up on that.......

My plan is to buy h1x0 units, to stock parts like batteries, hard drives, etc.....then try to get them working, and if I totally screw them up so be it......my guess would be that a lot don't work cause the power supply is screwed...I figure it just has to be some bridge rectifier that drop to 5V...???....this is why I want one to find out these type of issues......

There's quite a bit of hardware documentation in the RockBox.org wiki which should be of interest to you. From what I've read, fried power supplies mostly come from using the wrong charger and have two possible outcomes: fried power supply circiut or a completely fried motherboard. The latter happens (it seems) if the unit was on or turned on with the incorrect voltage applied.

There are parts offered in the wiki as well, have a look there. for questions, have a chat with LinusN, he's the hardware guy that knows most of h1x0/h3x0. Misticriver may also have threads offering parts.

Anyway, good luck ;)

Around a year ago I paid $20 plus shipping off of ebay.  It looked like it was plugged in without the included AC adapter and fried.  However, the HD was good.

Stay Kind,
