ok, my 2 cents....with my "ultra-stealth" setup ;D

source/lineage:
mics: DPA4061 omnidirectional mics (terminated into 1 x 3.5mm plug by Chris Church instead of 2 x microdot-plugs)
battery-box: SP-SPSB-9 (12 Volt) NO bassfilter in my battery box!
recorder: Edirol R-09 on MIC-IN at recording level 20/AGC:OFF/LOW CUT:OFF/MIC-GAIN:LOW/EXTERNAL MIC: stereo.
recording format: 16bit/44.1kHz WAV=> sample as mp3 320kbit/s
venue: big open air ...huge stage and lotsa soundpressure as I was standing about 20m in front of the right stack ;)
Adobe-Audition: volume boost (right channel amplify +4dB(my mics are not matched)/Hard-limiting up to -0.1dB and overall gain +2dB)

this could be fun - and helpful to new members deciding what mics to buy

Once upon a time, when I had money, and was deciding what mics to buy, the one thing I wished I could find was an actual direct comparison between two mics recording the same event from roughly the same location - has anyone ever done that?

Don't get me wrong - the samples are great, and that was one of the biggest factors when I made my decision - but there are just so many other variables in the room sound, band genre, taping location etc that sometimes made my head spin trying to figure out whether it was really the mic that was causing the sound I liked or disliked.

Anyone ever tried putting something like that together?  I know a lot of people here have more than one set of gear, or know each other and can get something together, but I guess the only reason to do it would be as a learning guide for other folks and maybe it's more hassle than it's worth?
