Microtrack internal battery not hold a charge
« on: July 19, 2007, 11:17:52 PM »
My Microtrack doesnt seem to hold a charge for very long.  If i charge it and not use it, it will be dead in a day .  When i use it at shows i always run the external 4 aa battery box, but ive already lost one show while recording because the internal battery didnt have enough of a charge to keep it going once the AA's were getting low.  ANyone else have this problem?  How do i go about getting this serviced?  I bought it used in the Yard Sale, so i dont have any original documentaion to send to M Audio.  Will they service it for a fee?
Thanks for any advice.

Likely on your own with no warranty support from M-audio, but service for a fee is always an option if there's time for round trip before needing again.  While most these batteries when new will hold working charge for a week or more, some new owners had problems like yours, and more owners had same issues after using/abusing the internal lithium cell.

Rechargeable lithium cells tend to last much longer not being constantly topped off, and being stored in discharged (<80%) state.  Suggest charge up on day of use a few hours before if possible so external support battery is not tapped to do much charge-top-off service.

A thread discussing another external battery solution usable for MT deck external USB connection is found here: http://taperssection.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=dc5cb19c3eae03a2a98a47d2a8b6b290&topic=85254.msg1154218#msg1154218

Thanks for the info.
I mailed it out to M-Audio last week.  They say it will take 3-4 weeks.  There is a $75 charge.
Ill let you know how it turns out when i get it back.

OK!  I just got the recorder back this morning, friday 8/10.  I mailed it out UPS Ground on thursday 7/26(with an expected delivery date to them of wednesday 8/01). It cost $75 for the new internal battery, labor and return shipping.  They fixed it and return shipped it UPS Ground back out to me this past monday, 8/6.  Great turnaround time of only 15 days!
I had also mailed out the recorder from a UPS store, and had them package it, but M-Audio sent it back to me in a new Microtrack box with a new velvet black pouch for the recorder...very cool of them. +T to M-Audio!
