If you seed BT where do you do it?
« on: July 21, 2007, 01:53:48 PM »

I DO NOT want to restart the "incident" because that has finally been locked down, but I am looking for some different places to seed my recordings.

I tape a lot of non - jamband type stuff (post-rock, psych pop, indie) so I would like to know if anyone else torrents this type of stuff and where you do it.

I have a few on bittorrentmusic.com but that site, being so new, will take some time to get traffic. Not one nibble on the Tortoise SBD?
I also put one up on TTD but I have mixed emotions about that site.

Ultimately I want to be able to share with as many people as possible....I was a leacher for a long time and I feel like I should give back.

For the type of bands you record, and to reach as many people as possible, I think there's really only one option:  Dime-A-Dozen.  After that, probably TTD (why do you have mixed emotions?).  No BT tracker has perfect mods, is perfectly run, with perfect policies, and perfect leechers, and perfect seeders.  Accept them for what they are - warts and all - and do what you want to do:  share the music.

Dime is maxed out on new members and have been every time I have checked. Is there a waiting list or something and I'm just missing it?

The Trader's Den hosts a lot of stuff that I do not consider taper friendly but so does just about every other tracker. Like you said....accept them for what they are.

I have seeded almost exclusively at bt.etree because I think that their goals are the most inline with mine.
I'm just looking at other options.

Agreed, getting an account over at dime is just a matter of time. If you keep clicking the register button occasionally every now and then, eventually you will get in. The database is renewed once every 10 minutes and that way vacancies will open.

As for where I seed my masters, first and foremost Dime. After that's been there for awhile, I usually upload on Traders Den, unless someone's already uploaded that show there, which happens occasionally. On top of those two, I rarely upload them anywhere else as that tends to cover the majority of people who use torrents.

No BT tracker has perfect mods, is perfectly run, with perfect policies
Ain't it the truth. Private and semi-private BT trackers, especially the big ones, are almost all run by the worst kind of petty little despots who love to make and viciously enforce pointless rules (there's absolutely no sane reason to cap user registration at 100k like DIME, or only allow registration on weekends like Demonoid, or to create an invite-only clique in the name of keeping out "cheaters"...).

The only major downside of DIME is that they ban any song that's been officially released, such as on a live album. They're pretty damn quick at enforcing it, too. But that's semi-legitimate, since they're presumably concerned about getting in legal trouble...as if they're not already flagrantly enabling copyright infringement. Anyway. DIME is fine, just follow the rules. There aren't too many to be concerned about, especially when you're seeding your own material.

The Traders Den works fine for me.  Had technical problems with etree, nothing related to this recent blowup, and they were unable to affect a solution so I moved on.  I liked etree better because I could go on and see who was downloading.  Not much, true, but I got a kick out of it.  Simple things for this simple mind    8)

you can do that on 99% of trackers.  on etree all you can see is the IP addy's.  on TDD etc you can see the logins.

Really? Care to elaborate?
