hey, someone help me...i'm trying to send a .wav file to my pianist friend in spain, and my email won't send such a large file, added to the ridiculousness that i only have slow-speed internet access, can anyone tell me what program i need or how to convert this into mp3?  i have audacity but it keeps telling me i need lame.dll or something, but when i go to download lame, it says its not an mp3 converter, can someone explain this to me?  the evolution of music is at stake...my pal is a pianist and has never heard mmw.  help!

You just need the lame.exe program. This runs from the command line.
Or you will have to use the lame dll as a plugin in other software like Audacity.

In the latter case, the hosting application calls functions within the dll (dynamic link library) to accomplish the conversion.

In lame.exe, you open a command line window (like a terminal). To convert your one file, you would just type lame.exe and the the name of the file and press enter. You might want to copy the wav file to the same folder that lame is in or else you will have to provide the full path to the file.

Default options may give you a good result. There are other parameters that can be provided to specify a higher bit encoding rate. If you type lame.exe without any parameters it should give you some onscreen help.

I just looked at Audacity. All you need to do is to download the lame_enc.dll and then tell Audacity where it is. </edit>

I do not know much about foobear but if you say it crashes I believe you.  foobar on the other hand is rock steady.  I have been using it for five years without a problem.  You ought to switch!
