Peluso CEMC6: cards or hypers??

the wife got me hypers for our anniversary.  ive read abit here about hypers v. cards, but i thought i might drop a post asking your opinion...

where to use each?  for example, im taping outfo @ James Island Pour house next saturday.  tight room, mics clamped to ceiling about 15 feet off the floor, about 20 feet from stage.  should i use the hypers in this situation?  i wouldnt mind phasing out some crowd noise, and the room aint great sound.  so, should i run the hypers here??

and what about a big venue...say panic in north charleston coliseum, OTS??

thanks for your help.  and dont forget, im pretty new here, and not the smartest kid on TS, so dont be afraid to "dumb it down a shade"

My rule of thumb is whenever I want to cut as much room sound out as possible I go with hypers. So indoor venues that typically don't sound all that great I'll use hypers unless I am really close to the sound source. when I'm outdoors, or onstage, or in nice sounding rooms I'll usually use cards.

bean should be along any minute to tell you that hypers rule your face and you should run them all the time. I'm just bustin' your chops bean.

cards/onstage sounds good to me.  todds got the b+k's on the ceiling, so im wide open, ready for anything.  and i dont think charles is going to waste his time talking poop to me, youre the mastermind behind this operation.  see yall on saturday!

personally I have never heard any hypers that I really like the sound of
if you are close
especially running on-stage
go with cards @ 110° ORTF

or on stage running spaced omnis would sound sweet
when the music is full on  the music will cancel out any audience noise

alternatively on-stage try running blumlein
vertically crossed figure 8's  sounds super sweet
ran Busman's SD LSD2 at the Pickathon in a wide blumlein setting ~ 110°
and they way the mix sounded was awesome, during quiet no music parts it picked up a sweet audience sound , but during music the front lobes of the 8's canceled out the crowd

I would say if you are indoors(or outdoors) and not onstage, I would run hypers DINa(I run hypers 99% of the time. In fact, in the last year I have ran cards just once outdoors (FOB/DFC/Sweet Spot) and since I have been a hyper slut the last 2-3 years, I have never made better recordings IMO. As always, try things out for yourself and see what you like the best, but in my experience recording indoors in venues other than theatres(rather crappy sounding venues) I HIGHLY recommend hypers/DINa 99% of the time. They cancel out crowd noise/chatter and have more focus on the music. What else could one ask for in a capsule for recording indoors

I ran hypers this past tues for STS9 and the crowd was ROWDY as hell and chatty as hell, and I was blown away once again at how well they cancel out the crowd noise/chatter and just pick up what I want them too

here is a link to the STS9 show from 10/02 so you can check out the potential that hypers have indoors FOB/3'ROC/30' From the Stage. Def dont be scared to run hypers. Folks say they are lean on the lowend, but I think if you are pairing them with a nice, phat sounding preamp(my 722's pre's) then they will fill out the slight low-end attenuation that hypers naturally have

All good points but you are talking of AKG hypers not Peluso hypers which is totally different. As much as I love the Peluso line of caps for the CEMC6, the hyper caps are the weakest link in the chain. They sound to thin for my ears and don't kill noise chatter as much as other hypers do. With Pelusos, use the cards, move closer and your recordings will be butta'.

Yes, with an m148 and my 702...it helped but after hearing the subcards>702, my hypers never saw the light of day again.

same.  Ran mine with a w+mod and a 722.  Though I do like the recordings I did with the hypers, once I got the subs, I ran those almost exclusively.  Every chance I got.  Of course, I'm biased, as I'm not a fan of hypers.  Well, hyper condensor mics, I do own some hyper dynamics
