Levels on the MT
« on: September 10, 2007, 07:32:07 AM »
This past saturday I set my levels on the Minime where I wanted them and then looked at the MT and levels seemed to be a little too hot.  The bars on the MT jumped up beyond what seemed to be 0 but on the Minime it was mainly hitting around -6 up to -3db. So my question is how accurate are the levels on the MT and if my levels are good, meaning not clipping, on the Minime is it ok that the MT shows the levels to be a little hotter?

Thanks,

Kevin

(I ended up dropping the level on the Minime to a little above -12db which allowed the levels on the MT to hit right around -6db and it sounds nice)

What are the actual levels on the recording, i.e. viewing them in a WAV editor?

I have found running my minime > mt via SPDIF that they are about equivilent.  The MT will clip before the minime though because, I think, the minime shows peak after 5 sequential clips while the MT will show red right away.

Also it really depends on the venue but generally my sweet spot is right around 12 o'clock.

I was running via SPDIF...The minime was not clipping though, I was hitting around -3db but mainly my levels were around -6db.

On the microtracks levels it has bars in front and behind it fills in the area as the levels get hotter (If u cant follow this ill post pics tonight).  The filled in area did not seem to hit 0 although the bars were beyond.  The MT, however, did light up red (clipping). I think I confused myself but hopefully you can follow and if not ill get some pics up later

I am finding that if you get the mme's second set of greens flickering you are good to go. I usually find the yellows and then back off abit, seems to be working. Oh and the overs on the mme are not forgiving, you go over in red and you get that wonderful clipcr*p sound ...

Also make sure you have your levels turned all the way up, I forget if this makes a difference with SPDIF but that might be your problem.  e.g. Move the arrows on the levels all the way to the right.

I don't think so.  Mine are turned all the way down but, it shouldn't make a difference with the digital SPIDF in.

Mark I have always run the minime hot into my DAP1 and have never had a problem with clipping.  I would run it to hit -6db consistently and hit the reds a few times during a show.

I never got the dreaded clipcrap sound until I got the MME. I noticed if I hit the red overs it clipped ...
