Topic: DAT tapes to macbook

I just got a macbook today and it had a digital cable in. my ols ibook g4 didn't, so now i'm wondering which program will do the job best for transfer. Does anyone have any ideas?

Audacity should do the trick. Best of all, it's free 

If that doesn't fill the bill, I'm just starting to play with Sonic Studio 3 from Felt Tip software. Looks pretty good so far, used it for a live recording MIC > Batt Box > MBP. Level meters are nice, and save peak (shows clip if you hit 0db). I was able to figure out enough of how to use it in about 1/2 an hour to make a recording without much trouble. Free 14 day trial, then it's $50.

Garage band will record the digital in as well but I haven't played with editing in it yet.

I've been doing digital transfers on my macbook with Sound Forge in windows/bootcamp {love that metering} and pulling it over to the mac side for burning in toast.

Even better, the 14 days aren't concurrent...i.e. you could open it today, then open it a month from now and you'd only be on day 2.

Or, since you're on a Mac and rarely need to shut down or restart, just leave SS open. The 14 days will last a loooong time that way. Then, if you like it, pony up the minimal fee for the program. It's lacking in some areas (Wave Editor would be a better choice, though definitely more expensive), but excellent for the low cost.
