Stage lip for me has usually been less stressful as far as watching my gear. I personally usually run my cables off to the side of the stage so my gear is well out of the way of both patrons and the band (helps to have an extra set of cables sometimes for this). Another plus to it is that you can be right up front with great views and still see your gear and tend to it as needed.

Well you could like I did for a local band and loan them mics. I gave them my AT4040's to use on-stage, and I would pull those from the board. Of course I also had the advantage of attaching separate mics to their stands too, so I put a QTC-1's on each mic stand and used all four mics to get a very nice recording each week. But I suspect neither of these suggestions are going to work for you.
