SBD XLR > USB > laptop - how do I do it?

Does anyone have a suggestion how to get from XLR from the board to the USB input in the computer?  I guess a custom cable could be made but it seems like there may be more involved.  Does anyone have any experience going directly from the board into USB in a laptop and what's involved if you want to go USB?

Record into CDWave - it's free and will do the job nicely.  http://www.cdwave.com

correction it's not free it's un-crippled shareware.
It costs 15$ to register it.

You need an outboard ADC that takes the analog feed from the SBD, converts to digital, and delivers the digital to laptop via USB.  Others may have specific gear suggestions.  I'm splitting your posts to a new thread as you may receive better responses v. posting in an almost 2-yr old thread.
