Have two at853rx's (phantom only) w/ 25' perm. attached cable.. easiest way to shorten them myself?
You can cut the cable. Then dissassemble the adapter (phillips screw near the XLR end of the adapter) and reconnect the shortened wire. There are screw lugs inside, so it is pretty easy. I recommend soldering ("tinning") the ends of the shortened wire to make a nicer connection. Remember to put a (single) knot in the cable for strain relief.
I recommend cutting down to half length (12'), but no shorter. You never know when you want to run the mics up a stand or something.
