Suggestions for CA Card mic configurations
« on: November 11, 2007, 01:13:07 PM »
Can any of the Church Audio stc-11 users share some of the various mic configurations they've used.  I have mine clipped to a PVC Mic Mount basically pointing in the direction of the band, in most cases 7-8-feet high, depending on the venue. I really need to come up with something a little better. I'm curious how others have used these mics and what type of results you've got. Sometimes I'm afraid to experiment and use what's worked in the past. Photos would be helpful if ya got any! Thanks, rWc3523 :headphones:

I have run mine XY and AB with good results.  Do you have a image of your mount?

I have run mine DIN for the most part @ ~8 - 8.5 ft.  I just got a swivel-T that will allow my to try a few other configurations.

Just wondering, are the tips of the CA mics supposed to be facing upward?

I thought they were supposed to be pointed toward the music source?

ive ran mine DIN, NOS, and AB.  ive had the best results so far going XY pointed slightly up.

i ran NOS @ 10 feet and ran them straight ahead for the 1st set.  i ran them 10 feet and pointed slightly down for the second set, and i feel the second set came out MUCH better.

NOS @ 10': http://www.archive.org/details/db2007-10-17.stc-11.flac16

XY @ 7' : http://www.archive.org/details/samples2007-10-03..flac

I have liked the results I get with DIN best.

I have also used ORTF and AB(when that seems to be the only option). I have had good results with these as well.

I really want to try XY but I haven't with these mics yet.

I have been really loving the CA omni capsules lately though, DIN or just A-B with head baffle.

Tensimounts.  Work great with the CA mics for running as your open taping rig.

Since CA mics are condenser, would you really need shock mounts?

i dont have proper shock mounts...mine are more like a standard mic clip with suspension attached to it.  they work pretty well....i just clip the mics right on to the clip, and then configure.  works fairly well for me.

thanks vanark i checked out the site.i use the sp-gna-3 t mount 12" arm on the AT8415 shock mount.i was using a home made set-up out of pvc that work ok, yet had the butt ugly look. also had the tendency to come lose. +T for your set-up, and have a taping good day. eyes

rolled duct tape? ??? Have any pics? ;D

I'm just clipping mine to a PVC mount, I think it's basically a DIN mount, but to be completely honest, I'm still not completely up to speed on DIN, NOS, AN, ORTF, etc. Some pics showing which config is which would definitely help I do understand XY and it would be interesting to come up with an XY mount for the ca cards.

I hate to admit to being a moron sometimes, but it's better than acting like you know everything!  ::) :D

Thanks for the help!  rWc3523
