I am trying to figure out a way to mount an MBHO active M/S setup as small as possible. Since MBHO doesnt make an actual MBHO M/S mount for shockmounts, it looks like Im going to have to be creative and rig something up on my own. I was thinking if I could find (2) mini-xlr mic clips to hold the actives by the mini-xlr end and maybe fit the fat ends of the mic clips where the 3/8 or 5/8" screw threadings are, that I could then put them in my Shure A53M shockmount for super lo-pro M/S action ;D I could put the fat end where the screws/threadings of the mini-xlr clips are in each end of the Shure A53M, that it could work out perfectly...

An actual M/S mount to fit the 21mm of the MBHO mics would be ideal if anyone has any ideas/info on those ???

Thanks in advance,
Bean

Oh and Ive searched high and low for mini-xlr mic clips. It seems the ones that would be PERFECT actually came with those neat TAO mics that tapermark busted out recently. But those sweet little mini-xlr mic clips dont seem to be made anymore :'(

EDIT: what about these spring loaded mic clips ??? If these could fit around the mini-xlr end of my actives, these might work out beautifully :) I would think that the 5/8" threaded end would fit into my Shure A53M donut shockmount snugly. Hopefully anyway. Has anyone tried something similar like this already? Seems that I may be the guinea pig since not many folks run the MBHo's to begin with....Especially the M/S MBHO's.....

I actually found a solution that may work out PERFECTLY ;D

What about these ??? These are made for the Audix Micro line, so they can be easily used with normal sized mic stands. Well, since the mini-xlr work with the Audix Micros, wouldnt these technically be the SAME SIZE as mini-xlr's ??? Since the Micros diameter would HAVE TO be the same size as the mini-xlr's for this stand adapter to work, then technically these micro stand adapters would work PERFECTLY on a mini-xlr cable, right ??? Since these are cheap, I may just have to buy a couple of them and just bite the bullet and try them myself :)

Check this NEAT ASS holder out:

could someone who owns the Audix micros tell me if the mini-xlr is FLUSH with the body of the Micros where the mini-xlr plugs into the Audix Micros bodies ??? If the mini-xlr sits perfectly flush with the micros body, then that micros stand adapter would work PERFECTLY as it would hold the mini-xlr connector on my MBHO Actives just as snugly as it holds the bodies of the micros.....I could then use two of those micro stand adapters and put the threading ends into my Shure A53M and have a simple and cheap M/S solution for my MBHO's for use with my actives ;D That would make me a VERY HAPPY TAPIR ;D

I dont plan on getting that MBHO KA800 N fig-8 capsule until AT LEAST a few months from now, but I would like to have all of this worked out ahead of time, so that when I get my KA800 N fig8 capsule, I can use it immediately and not do all of this grunt work AFTER it comes ;)

TIA,
Bean

and if the diameter of the mini-xlr is SLIGHTLY smaller than the body of the micros, I GUARANTEE I could put some felt on the clip itself where it holds the micros to make the mini-xlr fit SNUGLY and take up a bit more space. You know what I mean, the kind of felt that has a glue/sticky backing on one side of it. I actually have it right here in front of me too ;D Its the same felt that I have used to line my film canisters for my capsules :) I already felt lined another film canister for when I get that damn MBHO KA800 N figure-8 capsule too 8) I CANNOT WAIT until I get back to work and get back on my feet here soon....That MBHO fig8 capsule may just be an xmas gift to myself since I dont ahve alot of people to buy for this year. And with no g/f at the moment, I may actually have enough for it ;D

I think as soon as I can afford to order a few of those micro stand adapters(theyre special order, so im sure i'll have to wait 6-8 weeks to get them anyway), I am going to just buy them and try this out and see if it works first hand by myself ;D Its amazing what a little digging online with Google can find ;D Damn, I LOVE the interweb ;D

also, has anyone sued the Schoeps SGMSC M/S holder with their Schoeps ??? I am wondering if I could fit mini-xlr's where the Schoeps clips go in that mount ??? Does anyone know the diameter of the CCMC cable where the clips go onto to hold those ??? If the CCM diameter(where the clips 'clip' onto the cabling of the CCM to hold them in place) is the same as a mini-xlr, then that could be another option. Quite expensive tho!

SGMSC link picture:

Also, the Schoeps AMS M/S mount is another option. Another VERY EXPENSIVE option, but another option nonetheless! I know theyre made for 20mm mics, I am SURE I could work my 21mm capsules into them. With the extension of the MBHO Active end, I could make those work just like the schoeps+actives would!

also, do yinz think that the SGCM metal clips that are made for the ccm mics, would also fit around a mini xlr connector ???

my MBHOs came w/ 5/8 threaded mini XLR clips when i purchased them from Fraley.  There were actually two sets, one was broken.  They are made of plastic so probably prone to breaking.  I don't kno if they are OEM from MBHO or a third party

Looks like you've been staying up all night answering your own questions. :P

As soon as I started reading, I was going to suggest those Audix micro line connectors.  They seem like a good option to look into, and afaik the 5/8" connector end fits snugly into a schoeps A20s shock mount, making for a nice compact set up.

At any rate, the Audix site says the micro line are 12mm in diameter.  The switchcraft site says the mini-XLR connectors are 10.5mm in diameter.  So you should be able to get them to work, but might need felt in the holder or a loop of tape around the outside of the mini-XLRs.
Mics: Microtech Gefell m20/m21 (nbob/pfa actives), Line Audio CM3, Church CA-11 cards

    • My show list
I'm sure you'll figure something out.  either with the audix micro clips, or something like this:
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AT8405/
it's a mic clip for 21mm diameter mics.  I use a pair of these with my gefells (also 21mm diameter), and they're great.

one thing I will tell you, though, is stay away from those spring mounted clips.  They are crap.  When I first bought my gefells, they arrived the day before a show.  somehow, I didn't realize or pay attention to the fact that my brand new mics didn't come with clips or windscreens or anything.  So I ran out to guitar center and I bought a pair of those spring mounted clips.  thankfully, I only had to use them for one show (because I placed an order for those AT mic clips linked above).  They are cheaply made and feel rather flimsy.  it'll get you through in a pinch, but it's certainly not something that I'd rely on.
