I PROMISE this is my last hardware inquiry...
« on: December 26, 2007, 09:21:04 PM »
but, Im now realizing (finally) that I believe that all I need to go XY w/ my Onstage Stands t-bar, is a riser for one side. Am I correct??? Im seeing various risers/adapters @ B&H, but Im having trouble finding the one I need. Im using the ole' AT8410a's. I believe I need a 5/8" Female to 5/8" male. Am I right? Can anyone hit me w/ a link to this riser (not sure if thats the technical term. lol).

thanks everyone. Mad props to everyone here @ TS. Wish I could be of more help sometimes, but w/ almost 100 posts under my belt, I still have alot to learn. I assist where I can. WOO!

Not sure what you're using to mount the shockmounts, but if it's pretty much any type of standard t-bar, just mount one mic on top of the bar and the other upside down on the bottom of the bar. You'll get perfect spaced X/Y with no risers needed.

Rapido makes a spacer just like what your looking for. Pretty sure you can get them at SonicSense and at some big Guitar Center like stores.

edit: I wouldn't run X/Y with one 8410 upside down. Mics too far apart to take advantage of the coincidence.

Gotta kinda agree.  The best X/Y config would have the mic capsules almost touching each other, one right above the other...or at least the windscreens touching each other.  The idea of X/Y is getting the sound coming from the left side to hit the mic capsule at the exact nanosecond as the sound coming from the right side hitting the right mic capsule.  The more spacing you have vertically, the more of a chance it might not happen that way.

Just flip one screw over.
The sound will hit your array in coincident, regardless of vertical spacing (within reason.) You don't want a foot of vertical gap, but a couple of inches won't make a bit of diff, in the slightest.
;)

very awesome. I will try with the one up one down method. I was going to do this from the start, but I was worried about to much space. Im gonna give it a whirl.

Ill report any flaws due to spaing on Sat. after Fri. nights show...
