DPA csm4000 question
« on: December 28, 2007, 11:38:44 AM »
I run a pair of 4022s in dpa's csm4000 shock mounts. Because the 4022 has the cable coming out the rear, it is often a PIA to get the mic pointed exactly as needed when using the csm4000 mounts. Has anyone tried to remedy this by swapping out the rubbers in the shock-mounts from the stock "extra soft rubbers" to the "medium soft rubbers" that DPA offers? If so, did it help? Did it affect the performance of the shock mount?

These mics are really touchy for handling noise. Stiffening the shocks wouldn't be so ideal, imo.

What are you doing to dress the cables, when you're setting the mic angles?
I velcro the mic cables to the mounting bar / shockmounts / whatever, so that the mic angles are somewhat locked in the mounts, by the cables. I'll quite often double the cables back on themselves toward the mount ring, and velcro them to that, or, the spreader bar, etc.
Its also helpful to get the mics into the rubber holders as you can, even if it looks like you're mounting them to the "wrong side" of the mount.
I also use the Shemps a20s mounts cable clamp for this. Damn handy feature.

I have been running the two csm4000 mounts horizontally in a vertical schoeps a20s mount. Takes a little bit to get things the way I want, not perfect but it seems to work.

I've been thinking of playing around with spacing the mics out a little and will probably not be using the schoeps mount when I do this. Guess I might have to fabricate some small moveable cam-locks, similar to what's on the bottom of the a20s mount.
