anyone know anything about these mics?  would like to do is get a good microphone for it, and futz around with a delay pedal or wah wah pedal.  got any other microphones in mind?  i have about 200 to spend on the microphone.

How about Sennheiser e908 or e608?

Or even the MD 421?

Or the ElectroVoice RE20.  They seem to be really popular as sax mics for live sound reinforcement.  Karl Denson uses one.

typically for a sax, my "go to's" are, in this order

EV RE20
Beyer M88
Sennheiser 421

none of these clip on like the AT you mention, though.
for clip on, check out the Shure Beta 98. you wont get the lowend that you will get with these larger mics, but it sounds nice and is small.

I second this. I have used an EV 4088 swivel head dynamic (usually used on toms) that I bought at a pawn shop for 20 bucks and it sounds really good and smooth.

and the Beyer m88 and EV RE20 are excellent though double your 200 range new.

Maybe one of those Heil pr20 dynamics? They are only 150 bucks new at Sweetwater.
I was thinking of trying one out on guitar cabinets.

those EV 468's are nice mics for some applications, but i'm never happy with the low end that i get from them.
not sure what the freqency range of them is, but i'm willing to be that they don't go as low as the re20     

you are right about the price, though...i forgot that we are looking for budget conscious. re20 and m88 are a bit more than $200.

Stationary mics for sax.... Many sax players like to ham it up and move around...

BUT... If I'm trying to record on stage or stage lip, I want the sax player planted in front of a stationary mic so they stay more consistent in the soundstage.

I like the Shure sm58 I have also used the AT pro 35 and 421. In 20 years of doing live sound the best mic is the one that sounds the best for your playing all the mics mentioned here would be good.. But you really have to try them all and find the one that works best for your style of playing and you have to consider if your the type that wants to move around you need a clip on, but with a clip on you cant "pull back" for an effect anymore. I also like the OLD SM98 the new Beta 98 I find is too bright. The k&K is also a good system I have worked with lots of guys that use it. Generally speaking with Sax if you want balls a good dynamic mic with a large diaphragm aways works well. So many mics so many choices remember you want a flat midrange with a nice bump around 200 to 250 and some nice sizzle at 10k.. That's just my opinion but I find nice boost in the low mids really brings out the sax and gives it some real balls.
