Topic: permanently attaching a t-bar to a ceiling?

I'm looking to put an adapter permanently in the bar I'm working at, so I can thread my T-bar to the ceiling, and run the cables away from the customers.  Any suggestions on what to use?   There's a wood beam, that's mostly center that I'll probably attach it to.  Thanks in advance!

A microphone flange mount should do the trick.  You might need a jam nut to get your t-bar orientation just right, or maybe a gooseneck to provide some flexibility in placement, depending on the mount location relative to the stage, etc.  Several brands / prices available at B&H, and I'm sure elsewhere:

I've lashed a vertical bar/stand to columns and rafters many times using only plastic twist ties, the kind police use as makeshift handcuffs, and its quick, simple, cheap, and easy to remove, something you might consider

the one I did we found a plumbing thread with a small mount on it that the stand (5/8 end) would screw into.  we mounted the plumbing thread onto a  small 2x4.  we then mounted the 2x4 between the rafters and screwed the stand into the thread.  b/c we had to put the stand upside down you have to clamp to it.  the stand was a cheap ($20 or less) one form the local music store that had a big heavy base on it.   the base came off so we had just a pole to work with (no legs etc).

edit:  the plumbing part looks almost exactly like the part listed in brians post.

not the method you want to use:

one night at the windjammer i had forgotten todds boom pole.  drove home, grabbed one of the wifes ski poles from when she was a little kid, and duct taped it to one of the beams.  it was a little crooked and looked like shit.  clamped onto it and got the pull.  decent tapes all in all.  as i said, not the best method, but it got the job done!

i have a local bar that has a boom mounted on the ceiling and i am looking to place another one above the stage. it is a piece of hardware that looks like a plumbing fixture and should be cheap.  here is apic of it.  do any of you guys know where to get teh bracket that is screwed into the beam.  the pipe is just threaded pipe.

here is one more clear.  i have looked in home depot and found nothing like it. maybe a plumbing store? it should be cheaper than anything with bogen on it.

I understand the desire to save money and tinker with DIY options, but...I've never found the appropriate 5/8"-27 threads on anything from a hardware store.  We're talking a whopping $3.19 for a microphone flange mount.  So you might save, what...$2 if you happen to get lucky and find a properly threaded mount in a hardware store?  Oh, and you'll have spent a good 30min traveling to/from the hardware store and looking/asking around.  This is a no-brainer, IMO:  get the mic flange mount.

you are right, but it sure does look simple when i stand under it after a few beers though. the bar owner put it up but can't remember what he used

I'd probably cut some 3/8 threaded rod to go from a flange to whatever you're hanging.. and if necessary adapt the 3/8" to 5/8 at the tip.  ratshack has flanges:
