Sony Vegas rendering issues?!?!?
« on: January 30, 2008, 08:59:52 AM »
OK, so here goes another question from someone still learning the ropes of Vegas 7.0.  I recently filmed a couple of bands and ran seperate audio.  I have gotten down the art of synching up the new audio source (many thanks to the help from stantheman1976  ;D), but now I'm running into another problem.

I filmed the bands in 16:9, but for some reason when I try to render as NTSC DV Widescreen, it comes out as Pan and Scan, just gives me the extra black bands on the side of the footage.

If I try to work with the shows in TMPGEnc or view them on PowerDVD or on my TV, they are in 16:9.  I even got it to work once in Vegas, but in the process overlapped some of the video and didn't realize it until after I had rendered it and shut Vegas down.  Probably just something I'm overlooking, but I'd appreciate any hints, clues, tips or help anyone here would be willing to give.

Thanks in advance

Alot of times I have found in Vegas to set it as NTSC DV instead of widescreen. This seems to leave it with the black bands on the top and bottom instead of on the sides. It won't say widescreen when you gspot it, but it plays back widescreen. You will be able to tell immediatly if that works if you watch the monitor window during .mpeg rendering.

Thanks for the tip.  I tried it out on a shorter segment of footage and am still getting the same results  ???

I really want to synch up the audio with the video footage, cammie audio isn't bad at all, but the audio I pulled with my R-09 is far better.  Is there a way to add a second audio source in TMPGEnc (just out of curiosity)?

EDIT:  Yes, there is a way to add the second source of audio in TMPGEnc, just found it

Is there an 'anamorphic' check box anywhere in your Vegas settings?

Nope, I saw how to create an anamrphic video, but didn't do any of that.  I followed the instructions on how to create a widescreen video to the letter, but damn if I can get it to work.  I just burned the files to a DVD, which came out 16:9 no problem, so I know they transfered to my PC correctly.  Thanks, though.  At least you got me looking around a little.

I'm a Final Cut guy myself, so my potential help has concluded.  Sorry it couldn't be more helpful. :-\

No, thanks.  Actually you were a big help.  In my looking around, I seem to have found the answer.  I right clicked on the preview box and unchecked the "Simulate Device Aspect Ratio" box.  Now everything looks to be fine.  I'm going to get off line to free up my PC resources and try to render again.  Hopefully everything works, but at least the footage in the preview box is now correct.

I'd +T you guys for the help, but looks like I've got a bit more posting to do before I can, so for now you'll have to settle for a thank you!
