Marantz PMD671 Locking up?
« on: February 21, 2008, 12:44:47 PM »
 >:(

Hi everyone,

So I've now run into this issue twice with my 671, once on 12/31/07 & again last Saturday. Set up & started rolling fine (rig is in signature), about 15-20 minutes into the show, I look down, and the little red light on the 671 is flashing, and the display is flashing either 'Locked' or 'Unlocked', can't remember which, as I was just trying to get it back running as fast as possible. It happened a couple more times during the openers set, but I powered down @ setbreak, re-started for the main act, and ran for the 2 hours or so with no more issues.

Listening back to the tape today, the parts where the 671 locked up sound crazy- there is no music at all, it sounds like a glitchy sine wave actually (I can post samples later tonight if it will help). I believe the clock was still running while it was 'locked', and it was recording this weird distorted sine wave soundin' thing. I was running off the standard DVD batteries, one each for the 671 & UA5.

I do have a crappy RS coax cable that I think might be the culprit, plan to replace that even if it's not, just wondering if anyone has experienced the same kind of issue? Suggestions?

Thanks all

the problem is the cable apparently. the 671 will freak out if loses its digital signal from your ua5.

Cool, thanks.

Have you/anyone you know run into the same issue?

My 670 lost the digital input from my SBM once when I forgot to charge the batts in it, but when it did it went into rec-pause and said "no signal, or no input", can't remember which. As soon as I got the SBM going again, the signal popped right back up in rec-pause, and all I had to do was hit the record button.

The playback simply had a clean cut as if I had pressed pause during the recording and then released it. Something deeper may be going on with your 671. I would suggest contacting Doug Oade for advice, since he knows these units so well.

Could be your CF.  Some testing at home with an analog input vs. digi should allow you to point the finger..

the same thing would happen to me when my coax cable would get bumped in the bag.  just be sure its in there securely and the cable doesnt rotate or put strain on the jack.

ok, I'm gonna get a better cable & re-route it in the bag.

Thanks everyone.
