Did the rock wool absorbers make a significant difference in the room sound?

yes huge, but not rock wool, i got the corning 703 panels off ebay.  keep in mind the rear and right wall are painted concrete.  seems to have given me a much more defined image, and a little bass absortion too.   not as much as a few bass traps might.

im in the hunt for the compressed fiberglass pipe wraps like in the DIY links tim posted, but not having any luck.  so far they seem to be a difficult item to locate in the metro denver area.

damn, nice job Jim!

I took a pic of my "man cave."  This is taken from the center of the couch.  The only sound treatment I have is the coat rack!
I do have a nice Tannoy/Integra 5.1 system upstairs, but the "man cave" is where the good times are!   ;)

The only sound treatment I have is the highly effective 2.5' deep, tunable broadband front wall absorber ingeniously disguised as a coat rack!

FTFY  ;)

That is funny Gutbucket!

Yeah I love that mixing desk.  I found it at Guitar Center in a dusty box in the back corner of their mixing room.  It had been marked down a few times and the sales guy wanted rid of it.  I got it for $35, and the Sonic Maximizer I got for $30, it had been sitting there for a while too...

The QSC 1100 Amp I found in one of our vacant buildings at work.  it was an old dolby movie lab.  This amp model has some history in dolbys movie theaters in the past...  It is amazing the amp was undamaged and 100% operational, the roof had major leaks.

The design acoustic speakers I got as a gift when my parents moved.  These are quite interseting speakers, esspecially for free.  They have a down fireing 10" woofer, you should be able to see the gap at the bottom of the speaker...These are one of the model years made by Audio Technica, not the original company...

The power center came from Circuit City's going out of business sell.  It still wasn't cheap even at %75 off...

The Sub was a Besy Buy clearance special.  I think I scored it for $50 or $75...  I found a bunch of modifications on the web that made this sub far better than I ever expected.  (mod podge cone coating, polyfill inside and remove all the plastic in the back.)

The computer was a broken work station from work.  It took a little work to get it going again, but hard drives and memory are cheap these days!

The only thing I paid full price for in this rig was the monitor and the USB DAC!

I love the man cave!

lmfao.  I am goning to print that seal and proudly display it in the cave!

(yeah Jim that sub was upstairs.  I traded the polk sub to Kevin and moved the velodyne upstairs.)  I liked the Sony the best for the man cave experience...)

What do you use the BBE for? Just curious. I've mostly seen it used in guitar rigs.

I play my acoustic bass through it!  (That was the #1 reason I bought it)

Some folks also use it in their hi-fi playback systems too.  I use it that way, esspecailly for crappy aud recordings.  It can really bring the bass out of a thin aud, or can bring some sparkle back to a dark recording.  The higher quality SBD and studio recordings often have the BBE turned off.  I like the meters too...

That Man-cave seal of approval is pretty awesome!

Very cool (and somewhat rare) to see a single rack-space QSC amp...
QSC makes some bomber equipment.  I also found an old QSC amp at work and have been waiting for my 15yo Sony receiver to die so that I can work it into the playback.

My main system incorporates my TV, turntable, airport express, and aux inputs...
if I lose the receiver, what would you guys suggest to take its place?
A separate tuner, but then a switcher of some sort?

Here are some updated pictures of my man-cave(s).  I recently converted a rarely used formal dining room into a home office and will be soon extending the cd wall another 6 feet.
