So, first I got my rig and was like SWEET.  Then I was like, WTF did I get myself into!?

Taping 3 acts on Saturday (10KLF).  Curious about a few things.  First: about how long will a 7.2v Tamiya 3200 mAh battery pack last?  Second: what configs can I run using a simple T-bar?  Should I just space 'em a bit and point outwards towards the stacks?  The second question is more pertinent since I'm sure I have enough battery to last the day.  I'd like to know what options I have when running a T-bar, since the mics are at the same height.  Thanks.

I think the busmans are relatively short so you should be able to run DINa,DIN,ORTF,NOS without too many problems off of a garden variety t bar.

Don't panic!

But do get some backup batteries just in case.

And print off the pdf of microphone configuration angles so you can get your angles right (and look like a total newb geek) that's available in the Mics and Setup board.

First off +t for voyage virgin run and second make sure to have fun at all cost. After all thats what were there for and make sure to bring a back up battery. A couple things to add to list is flashlight, duct tape, velcro ties, pen and note pad. If you want to play it safe your first time out running cards DIN (caps o/c 20 cm a part at 45 degrees) for me is always a easy sure way to bring home a decent recording. Good luck!!

Thanks!  I've got 3x  -  7.2v Tamiya 3200 mAh batteries.  I'm only recording three shows, so I'll probably switch out to new batteries for each (any estimate on how many hours each 3200 mAh set will last?).  And I've got 12 GB worth of CF cards (1x 4gb and 1x 8gb).  One card for the first act (MSMW) and another for the other two (White Iron Band and God Johnson-- Minnesota folk if you haven't heard of 'em). 

So if I run DIN... Since the right microphone is facing the left, would I switch the left and right channels during my conversion to *.flac?  So the sound coming from the right (and captured by the left microphone) would remain right?  Also, how "clutch" is it too get the spacing between microphones exact?  Should I take a ruler to my T-bar and mark with tape the exact measurements?

FWIW if I run cardioids outdoors I always run ~25cm spread ~90 degree angle.

If your mic is pointing left and is mounted on the right it would be plugged into the left channel on your recorder.

For me it's not just xy that I do that with.
I cross my mics for ortf and din..
IMO it more depends on if your using big shocks, size of mics etc.

I'd like a distinct stereo image w/o a gap in the middle.  Seems like ORTF could be what I'm looking for.  So the 17cm gap is from capsule to capsule?  And how do you folk go about determining where 110 degrees is?  If I call my final configuration ORTF, is eyeballing the angular degree acceptable?  If I run ORTF, are cardiods preferred?  Since I'm running Busman, I have the hypers & subs to work with as well.

I found that when I ran certain configurations with the included t-bar, the backs of the mic bumped into each other.  One solution is to add a vertical spacer on one of the mics.  Personally, I made a vert bar.    DIN is be far the safest config to run.  GOod luck and HAVE FUN!!!

I cheat and use three different sharpie colors on my t-bar to determine 17cm, 20cm, and 30cm space and the 45-55 degrees I just eye ball it.

# Battery Operation Time; Approx. 8 hours (Tamiya RC3600HV, Ni-MH battery), Approx. 4 hours (4 x AA Alkaline / Ni-MH battery)
According to Oades site w/ a 7.2 3600mAh you get 8 hours so I would say w/ your 7.2 3400mAh you can easily get 7.5 and maybe eight because I those figures seem conservative but might have to do w/ running 24/96 so if you run the highest bit/sample rate you might only get 7.25.
